Hippo Lodge is 262 km from Lusaka and for easy navigation we strongly recommend you to use Google Maps (LINK) for the directions. Please do not leave the App navigation while driving because you will lose the signal soon after leaving Mumbwa. 
Hippo Lodge is a comfortable 5-hour drive from Lusaka and the road is passable all year round for a reasonably high-clearance vehicle, although a reliable 4x4 vehicle is needed in the wet season (December to April).
After driving approximately 160km from Lusaka on Mumbwa Road (M9), turn right at the sign for Mumbwa town. Drive 3.8km on tar road until you reach the roundabout where you take the first exit (turn left) onto a dirt road (M20) and pass the Total petrol station on your right-hand side. Please note that this is the last fuel stop!
After approximately 1.2km, passing some small road-side stalls where people sell vegetables, turn right onto a dirt road (D181) - Hippo Lodge is app 100 km away now. Travel straight along this road for about 58km until you reach a fork junction. Take the left fork (D181), and travel for about 25 km past the Open Prison, then past Mushingashi Game Conservancy (on your right-hand side) until you reach a fork junction again. 
Take the left fork (off the D181) onto the bush track and follow the signs to Hippo Lodge which is now only 16km away.
